Affordable Solar

Very shoddy installation with crushed roof vents with many broken and improperly replaced tiles. Solar panels were not installed as permit plan, different length brackets extending out panels of different height. Installation took much more than the implied 60 days and just recently a large piece blew off into neighbors yard where small children play. There were no injuries this time. Were terrified the first rain will cause much damage from leaks. I strongly recommend you have another company do your solar work.

I've had my system installed for two years now without need of any repairs, so far. My electrical bill has gone from an average of $100 per month to $8 per month, with my building a surplus of Kw hours each month. The installation process was as smooth and easy for a customer as one could hope for, with ASI handling all the applications and permitting necessary for the install. My personal experiences with Crystal(Sales), Annie(Project Mgr.), and Travis(Service Mgr.) from ASI were very professional and above reproach. He is not pushy salesman at all, he just provides good clear information on solar power. With this information you can make a clear decision whether solar is a good choice for you. We experienced total product and professional service from Affordable Solar at start to finish and beyond! How can this be? Well, each person was totally available for my questions and concerns by returning my calls and emails in a quick turn around manner every time! Each person, the salesman, home assessor, the clerk who filed the utility agreement with PNM and submitted our permit package, the installers who were respectful of our roof and property, the electrician who was very careful and tidy with each connection and lastly, the very knowledgeable staff person who helped us file the State and Federal tax forms. The salesman and staff person who walked us through all of the steps from start to finish were available BEYOND the call of duty when we had tax filing questions months after being hooked up to the grid! We made our first loan payment on 05-01-2021, and Affordable Solar was just as helpful and responsive to help us in January months after everything was completed!

Affordable Solar help me cover my entire roof in solar. They were flexible with my schedule, answered my concerns, and delivered and excellent system. However, she still took the time to do some research and send me information on the type of equipment that i was looking. We just completed installation of our solar project in February 2020, and it has been a dream come true every step of the way! I was initially skeptical that solar panels made sense for my home, but after doing my homework, and sitting down with the folks at Affordable Solar, it all made perfect sense. The process and costs are made totally transparent by the sales team in a clear, concise proposal the give you after assessing your historical electrical use. They can predict on that data how many panels and inverters your system and should be composed of, and exactly how long the installation will take. I was actually very pleased at how affordable our system was. Once we agreed to move forward, the assessment team came out, designed the panel placement, and ensure that our roof areas for panel placement were structurally sound. Affordable Solar does all the hard stuff (permitting, HOA approval, etc). The actual installation took half a day, and it was painless because the panels are on skids/sleds that simply sit on a flat roof with ballast blocks -- no invasive mounting into your actual roof. Once done, they arranged for all electric company inspections/certifications, which came quickly. To date, my system has actually performed better than was predicted, and my electric bill has completely vanished. My sales representative, Solve Maxwell, and my project lead Jonas Terwilliger, were absolutely AMAZING during every step of the project -- they make it happen smoothly, efficiently, and perfectly every step of the way. I am soooooooooo glad I elected to do this. I feel socially responsible, received a wonderful tax rebate, and am loving the fact that we are converting all this gorgeous New Mexico sunshine to energy. This rating of my residential solar system consists of four sections. 1. Sales Dylan Connelly's presentation of the "Affordable Solar" concept was complete and understandable. I had many questions with respect to system design, my specific configuration, system performance, system warranty and product support. When Dylan did not know an answer to a question, he would say so and respond with "I will get back to you". He always got back with an answer. Dylan did not pressure me to sign a contract at our first meeting. He understood and respected my need to obtain other proposals in order to evaluate the cost and performance of other systems. Dylan represents "Affordable Solar"in the most professional manner. Give Dylan a raise. 2. Contract Actions Contract actions were uncomplicated, concise and accurate. Proposed installation schedule presented at contract signing was met to the day. 3. Project Management Project Manager contacted me the day of contract signing and provided a continual update of installation schedule. Project manager provided timely information on the progress of the municipal and utility permits and approval . 4. Installation Installation was superbly choreographed. System installers arrived on schedule, electrical panel upgrade was completed with no hitches. City/utility inspectors arrived at time requested by "Affordable Solar." Quo-dos to Adam on electrical panel upgrade, mapping the circuitry in the house and solving lawn sprinkler problems. Quo-dos to Eric for clean up on electrical panel installation and paint matching on external boxes. Bottom Line - "Affordable Solar" is the best choice for residential solar systems in New Mexico!!

This is the second time I've used Affordable Solar, with all the increases from PNM, I decided to add to my system. My salesman Justin was the best, he called me/emailed me all the time and even got me set up w/financing. The three (3) gentleman who installed my system were so nice and professional. When I left and came back they were gone and it was as though they were never there. My project manager Kelsey M. on the other hand was awful, when I tried calling her one day her mailbox was full, so I reached out to Justin and he called me back right away and between the two of us figured out what was going on with PNM. I never spoke to Kelsey on the phone, it was all via email. When I would get emails from PNM she would not follow-up with me, I would always have to reach out to her. I had to reach out to PNM numerous times trying to get my new REC meter installed and my system working with no help from Ms. M. I'm not sure if she's not a people person or figures once the job is done her responsibility to the customer is done. I would recommend Affordable Solar, but make sure when you're notified who you project manager is, you ask for a change if it's Kelsey M. Be sure and ask for Justin D as your salesperson.

You have to do all you say you will do and do it in a professional workmanship manner to get my recommendation. This is what I found that has impressed me the most with affordable solar (AS). I did hours of research before deciding that AS was the company I wanted to install my solar panels. I was sold because of their product, warrantee, service and the feedback from customers they had serviced. At the very beginning after signing the contract we were kept informed of the entire process from start to finish. (AS handles all the paperwork for you) I have the highest praise for AS service, cleanliness of operation and timeliness. I do not hesitate to recommend their service to anyone in need of professional solar installation/service.

Solar Consultant: Michelle Davis Project Manager: Spencer Allen If you are looking for someone who will be honest with you, someone who can relatively quickly evaluate your needs based on past usage and provide a cookie cutter approach at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Affordable Solar. Michelle Davis was awesome to work with in that regard. The process is generally they review your past usage, and put together a package proposal of the number of arrays, where they would go and what your expected savings would be. Be aware, that all of the solar companies use the higher electricity rates for what you will recoup from having the arrays. Of the several proposals I received, Michelle was one who I think tries to be honest and up front. Spencer was very nice to deal with, but hard to get ahold of. Installation went reasonably well. The staff was polite and tried to be respectful and careful with the installation. They did mar the surface of my stucco on my deck just a bit. If I wasn’t so detail oriented, I probably wouldn’t have noticed. They also left a 30ft (I think) ladder tied to the side of my house for about 4 or 5 weeks after the inspector had used it. If that is all you need, no need to read on. In my particular case, I had a few issues I will list below. There were some scheduling problems. I received a call during an important meeting I was having at work, and was chewed out a bit for not being home for a scheduled appointment. I left my meeting and rushed home. Once there, I started looking at my schedule. As it turned out, I had told them I could not make that appointment, and had had it moved, but they never canceled the first one. There was also another time I had a scheduled appointment for a wall patch. When the guy was 45 minutes late, after have a heck of a time getting hold of someone, I was told he had injured his hand earlier in the day and had to go to the hospital. I later found out that the injury to his had occurred several days before that and that no one had called to cancel the appointment. His patch work was very good. The other “issue” I guess I will call it, is that my usage was in a state of change. What prompted some of this was my decision to go all electric on my vehicles. I was unable to get much help on what I would need, or what my options were for additional production. I had to research the heck out of things. I found the website (http://pvwatts.nrel.gov/) to help with this. I had to research how to determine what the cells would produce, and what I would need. I wanted to see about changing inclination angles for the panels, and I am still not sure the 10 degree angle for a flat roof is a code requirement, or the standard bracket mount. I tried to find out other things, such as how much off of south pointing the arrays would cost me in production. Spencer was pretty non-responsive to my questions. In one of the 2 or 3 conversations I was able to have with him, he promised they would point as far southward as possible, but that was never relayed to the installation crew (or so they told me), and they oriented in the same direction as my house. I never received any help in asking about rotating the arrays during the day to aid in production. As a result, I have waited several months to post my review, as I wanted to see how well it worked. I think over a year, I would have a hard time producing enough electricity to totally cover my usage, and that is after I added another 7 panels to what they proposed. They have a production guarantee. I was told it was 96% of whatever the panels would produce. In the end, the guarantee I was given was only about 93%. Affordable came back telling me it was 95%, and to their credit, they did give me $500 to offset this. Production is a bit above what Affordable told me, and well above their 93% guarantee they put in writing. I can only hope it stays that way for the next 10 years. The last thing I will mention that was very frustrating, is that I was repeatedly told about the 25 year production guarantee. When I went in to sign the contract, that contract was only a 10 year guarantee on manufacturing stuff on the arrays. I asked the question, so what happens if a weld breaks on an array, will it still be covered by the production guarantee, or does the mechanical guarantee take precedence. I don’t think I ever received a good answer on that one. Again, I am a picky person. I think Michelle and Affordable try very hard to be above board and honest. I also think they are very busy, and my questions we not easy answers and got pushed to the side sometimes. Even with the negatives listed above, I think they are better to work with than most of the others I received quotes from.

I didn't fully appreciate Affordable Solar until after my system was up and running. Once I saw that it was producing electricity and I was able to analyze its performance with my cell phone, I was completely blown away. Everything was functioning just as Crystal (sales rep) had promised. But it wasn't until after I was able to compare notes with a few friends who had also installed solar on their homes, that I realized I had used the leading company in the entire country. I had zero surprises from beginning to end on my project and I can enthusiastically recommend this company to anyone who might be looking into getting a system for their home.

To start,, my project that was supposed to be complete in 3 to 4 months,,, it finally got finished in 9 months. From sales to project mangager to general manager the communication was horrible. The left hand didn't know what the right was doing. After the 9 months that it took to finish we had a big rainstorm and I woke up to 3 leaks in my roof and ceiling,,, after the repair there were no follow up calls to check on my account. Along with this there were no show's from their workers after making appointments and carelessly leaving my door wide open where my dog got out and I had to chase her a block from my house. This just sums up what I went through with this company.. Not a pleasant experience with this company.

Rob Davis and the team at Affordable stood out from the other two companies we looked at for our solar system. The installation team was nothing short of amazing. They installed and tested our system in less than a day. While there were bumps in the road with approvals and inspections the end result is fantastic. My power bill last month which was extremely hot was $89 with on 21 days of solar power being generated. My first full month bill will be a great indication of what we can expect. We are very happy with our solar system. However, I gave a 4 star rating, because there were some stressful times during the installation with a conduit having to be relocated and our assigned project manager was very inexperienced, hard to get a hold of, and delayed the turning on of our solar system due to miscommunication & scheduling mistakes when it came time to have the City of Rio Rancho come out and do the inspections. Our sales representative Justin Dewey on the other-hand was phenomenal to deal with and on-the-ball when it came to getting answers to our questions and/or requests. Due to the delay of our system being turned on, the general manager wanted to "make it right" and earn our trust back and offered to pay our June electric bill. Therefore, Affordable Solar has earned our trust back and we are very satisfied customers now that we have our system installed and up and running.

Deciding to add solar to our home started with having 3 companies come visit. It was quiet remarkable how varied each company's sales person presented their product. At the low end we barely received enough information to even make an uninformed decision. At the top in Rob Davis from Affordable Solar was the most professional with the greatest amount of information. As an automation engineer I tend to research everything to death before I make a decision. Each time I asked Rob for another technical document he sent it and then some. The middle of the 3 companies held in there for awhile but eventually faded next to Affordable Solar. At that point we signed a contract with Affordable Solar. Yes there were bumps in the process of getting approvals and inspections. Installation wise the Affordable team is outstanding. They installed 32 panels in one day. We really enjoyed having them at our home. Once installed it took almost a month to get inspections and approvals. We've been on line now for 46 days. I have yet to stop watching the PNM power meter turn backwards as the panels produce more than we are consuming. For our first 46 days the panels are producing more than Affordable Solar guaranteed us. To say we are happy is a complete understatement. Rob Davis and the Affordable Solar team are a true cut above their competition.

The expertise and ability to answer the many questions we had at the initial consultation fully and in a manner we could understand. I regret doing business with Affordable Solar (AS). The process became a nightmare soon after I signed the contract. Before installation, the City of Albuquerque and PNM have to inspect the electrical panel and they show up at their own leisure (usually when you're at work) and need access to your home. AS will suggest you leave your gates unlocked or leave your garage door opener with them (do so only if you enjoy having your home broken into). Then after the installation is done the city inspector needs access to your home again for a final inspection and again will show up at his own leisure. Don't expect any kind of coordination through AS because even through they schedule the inspections the inspectors may not show up or call before they come to your home. The "project manager" was worse than useless because she did not coordinate with the roofing company who install my new roof to have the penetrations resealed and the solar panel installers had to wait until the roofers arrived. Of course, all of the delays with the inspections and installation caused AS to miss the deadline for submitting the State of NM tax credit which (along with the federal tax credit) was the only reason I decided to have the system installed in the first place. If you haven't calculated the cost of the system versus the monthly savings then do that first because you may be surprised to learn how long it will take for the system to pay for itself (it won't seem worth it). The salesperson is another sad story. Like typical salespeople do, you will be lied to or told things that sound wonderful but are embellished in unbelievable ways. I was initially told that if the system was installed by the end of 2016 I would qualify for both the state and federal tax credits. Then I was told (in an effort to make a quicker decision) that the system had to be installed by the end of the 2016 summer or I would lose the state tax credit. What I wasn't told was that the city had to complete final inspection and documents submitted to the state before receiving the state tax credit (it's not automatic like the federal tax credit). By the time I received clarification of this the deadline was near, the city inspector did not show up for the appointment, and the state tax credit was denied. Huge lack of communication on the part of AS. When I confronted AS with my dissatisfaction I was promised a 100% refund of the amount of the state tax credit but with the stipulation that the remaining balance be paid in full first. When I asked for further clarification the sales manager was evasive in explaining. Ultimately, I got the explanation I needed but AS only reimbursed me 50% of the state tax credit (I did say they lied didn't I?). On to the installation of the monitoring system. The installer will not come to your home when it is convenient for you but when it is convenient for him. If you cannot be home at his convenience he will suggest you can install the monitoring system yourself. The monitoring system itself will NOT provide any useful information directly and you will have to log onto their website for the information. Don't be sold on the wonderful free lifetime monitoring (it's NOT that wonderful or useful). Anyway, as far as the performance of the system, I still paid PNM for electricity for the first 2-3 months after the systems was installed because it was NOT generating enough to offset the electricity use during the summer and I began paying PNM again in December. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!! BUT...if you decide that maybe it is...find another company. One star is more than AS deserves.

We decided to go with solar and looked at the 3 or 4 top rated solar companies in our area. After meeting with each of them we decided to go with Michelle Davis of affordable solar over the competition and boy were we pleased with the final result. The process as a whole took slightly longer than we would've hoped due to PNM needing additional screening before approving our project but affordable solar did a great job of keeping us informed during the whole procrss and keeping the project on track. We love the myenlighten monitoring system and would recommend solar to anyone.

We've just had our panels installed this summer, and we're already pretty happy! I had an idea that we would be happy with the company, considering a lot of our neighbors AND family suggested using Affordable Solar. I'm glad we took their advice! There were two individuals in particular that were super helpful: Justin Dewey and Alex Kyriakos. Of course the crew, installers, and inspectors were great also. We have had our system now for almost two years. I had researched all I could find about solar panels, Inverters and types of installation hardware. I contacted three solar company's and received three bids. One company used panels that were a mid range and had only fair reviews. Company #2 wanted to sell me what they insisted I needed.
