There can be solar tax credits and incentives available at the federal, state and local levels. The calculator above will show you the value of all incentives your home is eligible for.
Kansas has not had a strong history in supporting home solar power, or even renewable energy more broadly. In 2015, the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) law was repealed, and a voluntary “goal” for renewable adoption was put into place. In 2019, the state’s largest utility company, Evergy, got the Corporation Commission to approve monthly fees added to the bills of homeowners with solar panels.
That ruling was subsequently overturned by the Kansas Supreme Court, but even without the additional fees, adding solar panels to a home in Kansas is not the great financial decision it is in many other states.
That doesn’t mean Kansas is without incentives for solar. Specifically, the state offers both solar net metering and a property tax exemption for the value a solar installation adds to your home.
Learn what solar incentives are available to Kansas homeowners
See what Kansas solar incentives you qualify for based on your utility company and city
Find out how much these incentives and/or Kansas solar tax credits will reduce your cost to go solar and add batteries
The federal solar investment tax credit will have the biggest impact on the cost you will face to go solar in Kansas
If you install your photovoltaic system before the end of 2032, the federal tax credit is 30% of the cost of your solar panel system. This is 30% off the entire cost of the system including equipment, labor, and permitting.
Example: If your solar energy system costs $20,000, your federal solar tax credit would be $20,000 x 30% = $6,000.
The federal tax credit falls to 26% starting in 2033.
With net metering in some states, you get full retail rate credit for the amount of electricity you send back into the grid with your solar panels.
Net Metering requires your utility to monitor how much energy your solar power system produces and how much energy you actually consume, and make sure you get credit for the surplus.
Current Kansas net metering law says that solar production will be recorded throughout the month, and if the customer generates more kilowatt-hours (kWh) than they use, they’ll be paid for the excess energy at the utility’s “system average cost” (wholesale rate) — about 2.1 cents per kWh, compared to 11.3 cents/kWh retail.
That means you get paid much lower than retail if your panels generate more than you need during a whole month. Folks in Kansas have a reason to choose smaller solar panel installations that won’t produce more than their usage during the sunniest month of the year, or they risk earning less money for the kilowatt-hours above and beyond that number.
That’s Kansas net metering as it stands, and there aren’t any major plans afoot to shake it up. There’s no guarantee that will go on indefinitely, though. Kansas has had a bit of a bumpy history with net metering.
As we mentioned above, in 2019, Evergy (formerly Westar and KCP&L), the largest investor-owned utility in Kansas, got approval from the Kansas Corporation Commission to levy additional monthly fees on solar owners. Thankfully, that approval was stuck down by the state Supreme Court in early 2020.
The Court was pretty clear in its decision that Evergy’s attempt to charge solar owners more than other customers was “price discrimination” that Kansas law “clearly prohibits.”
Solar rebates in Kansas? Ha, no. There is one current solar incentive worth mentioning, though...
Fortunately the Kansas legislature has passed a solar property tax exemption. While this won’t save you any money upfront, it will save you thousands over the long haul.
Installing a solar power system adds thousands of dollars in value to your home. With the property tax exemption in place, you won’t have to pay a single extra penny in property taxes for that home value increase. That saves you thousands over the three-decade life of your solar power system!

A first-rate experience with Good Energy Solutions which began with a knowledgeable Sale's Rep, Ian followed by a discussion with the VP, Jeff and then meeting the professional solar installers/electricians (Andrew, Chance, Anthony, Jeramiah, Peter and Greg). This team "walked me " throughout the entire process. Did a ground mount install on my farm in additional to an install of two Tesla Powerwall 2 models. The team was extremely efficient, friendly and knowledgeable about how to install, interrogate and program the solar arrays and batteries. This company is the one to "go with".

Astrawatt of Mahopac, NY (which is somehow related to or part of County Comfort, or maybe vice versa) performed an install of my solar panels in 2023. I've been waiting to write this review until I got through the full process. (I'm writing this in paragraphs, but in case it gets compressed I'm putting in "~~~" to indicate breaks.) ~~~ They were nice enough to deal with, but the job took far longer than it should have. The contract specified 2 months from signature to completion, with install taking 3 days, but in reality this wasn't even close to correct. Promised completion date in the contract was Nov 8, 2023, but the system wasn't installed and functional until mid-December and wasn't switched on until January 2024. ~~~ The original design had some major mistakes that I flagged to the designer – panels facing west were put in the system as facing north, which significantly reduced their estimated output. (I'm not a solar engineer. Why was I the one to find their errors?) I assumed this was just a simple mistake, but given the production guarantee I'll talk about at the end, I now wonder whether this was intentional. ~~~ The initial measurements of my roof and joists were wrong, resulting in delivery of the materials on schedule but inability to install them. I lost use of my garage for 4 weeks while I waited for them to correct the designs and start the installation. ~~~ Communications throughout were terrible. I continually had to follow up to find out whether people were coming as scheduled, and had to rearrange my schedule multiple times to accommodate when they showed up without notice. There was one Saturday well after the promised completion date when a single electrician showed up to work on the circuit panel, and I needed to help him for two hours by calling out which circuits he was turning off and on. (Yes, I could have said just come back with another worker another day, but I wanted to get the damn project done.) ~~~ Installation looks good overall, but I keep finding little pieces of the install on my grass – plastic caps, the wires that hold the critter guards in place. I've started to wonder when I'll start finding larger pieces, and whether their 25 year guarantee will actually be a reality. ~~~ To their credit, Joe did agree to a price reduction given all the problems I listed above, and they installed an extra (older) panel for free to try to increase production. Joe also sent me a car charger extension cable for the time I couldn't use my garage. And their workers were pleasant and professional. ~~~ But finally, estimated production was 14% higher than what their panels actually produced last year – a difference of about 2300 kWh, which is pretty significant. The Astrawatt contract specifies a production guarantee: if production falls below 90% of the estimate in any given year, they will reimburse the value of energy below 90%. Production the first year was about 86% of estimated, so I asked for the reimbursement and calculated the amount they should reimburse at $241. They acknowledged they'd failed to meet the estimate, but then stopped responding and have not sent a check. I had to take this to the BBB and the state Attorney General. Still no resolution and today the BBB told me they've not replied to the complaint. It's been months since Keith or Joe have replied to my messages. ~~~ I am happy to have a solar panel system in place, but I am massively dissatisfied with the experience of working with County Comfort / Astrawatt. I assume I'll need to make a claim yearly to collect their contractual obligation, and I assume they'll be equally defiant every year, and I assume I'll have to continue wasting my time to collect. ~~~ So: I would STRONGLY recommend against trusting this company with your solar install.

Ted Hudson 4 reviews just now New DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!! THEY ARE NOT REPUTABLE!!!!. I spent over 1 hour on the phone with Matthew on 9/5/2025 asking questions. He was suppose to get back to me with answers. As of 10/3/2025, no response from this company. When I called them and asked to speak with Matthew, they just hung up. IF THERE WAS A NEGATIVE STAR RATING SYSTEM, I WOULD GIVE THEM THE MAX NEGATIVE STAR RATING AVAILABLE!!!!

It's hard to compare and contrast some of the offers that you will see, but with an expert review I knew that I was getting the best equipment, with competitive prices, and a local guy in Jason. He's the guy you'll see from start to finish, on your roof, dealing with the electric company, etc. He makes sure the job is done well.

Around early 2022 I was getting quotes to add solar to our house and went with Solar Planet. I was given a quote for a 12 kW system as I was looking to produce about 100% of my previous year’s usage. The system was installed in May but due to issues with approval with the electric company, was not working until around August 2022. I questioned the production of energy for about a year and kept being reassured it was working as installed. Finally, I was informed by Solar Planet, as I questioned what a 12 kW system should produce, that I did not have a 12 kW system, but instead an 8 kW system, even though I paid the quoted price for a 12 kW system (2/3 of the system I thought I was getting). I asked that my system be corrected to the 12 kW system I had been given a quote for but was refused. I hired an attorney, and again, tried to come to an agreement but was never given anything in writing. Eventually I had to file a lawsuit in court at which time Solar Planet finally agreed to install the system for which I was originally quoted. Solar Planet did install the remaining quoted system and the lawsuit has been dropped.

I had Lawrence Wind & Solar (now LZ Flooring Plus) install ten solar panels on the roof of my garage. They were installed for personal, residential use with the city requiring a second meter. I was impressed with the product, the installation and the follow-up service provided by Lawrence Wind & Solar. This was the first solar installation for our city electric utility department, so a representative of Lawrence Wind & Solar met with city personnel and visited with the city council to adapt their billing system to the new solar service I added. This took many hours of study and explanation on the part of the Lawrence Wind & Solar representative, but I feel the billing from the city is now fair and correct for my circumstance. The panels heeded to be removed and reinstalled when I had after-storm roof replacement and there were no problems with that process.

Don't work as promised and horrible support after installation. I would not recommend this company. They made a lot of promises for after the instaulation like a new themostat and that they would be easy to reach if we had any issues and after my installation they were nearly impossible to reach and they never helped with any issues. My system's app says that it produced twice what the electric company says it is doing and so I have a big electric bill and a bill for my panels. Mark was my salesguy and he seems very trustworthy, but multi years after buying from 816 Solar Pros I would never reccomend them or do it again. In theory I would have low to no bills and my bill this past month for just my electricy was well over $200 and after the second year I have never had a month when I didn't have to pay anything. I am still so disappointed in myself for trusting Mark and going with this company. I felt very pressured to buy and still can't believe I didn't go with my better judgment. Mark is a good salesman for sure.
